RIVER RAIDER

Dear BRMS Families,

In preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8th, our students had the opportunity to experience a portable planetarium that was set up in the multipurpose room at UID.   Carrie Cruz (The Planetarium Lady) was our guide to the skies over the last three days as our students were able to get a deeper understanding of how the lunar eclipse happens and how scientists are able to forecast future events.  Additionally our 8th grade students traveled to the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in anticipation of the celestial event.  We will be sending home certified eclipse viewing glasses with all of our students in the week before the event.  We are excited for our students that will be able to safely experience this spectacular opportunity.

Please be sure to look for your child’s second trimester report cards in your mailbox next week.  We have found that mail delivery times vary greatly for our families.  Let us know if you have not received this document by next Friday.  Additionally, please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to schedule a spring conference.

We have set the date for our 8th grade Recognition Night.  The event will be held on Monday June 17th.  Families will have the opportunity to help plan this event.  More details will be provided in early April.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Kevin

Screenagers Under the Influence

Wednesday, March 20th 2024 6pm-8pm

Camels Hump Middle School

We invite your family to join us for a screening and guided discussion of Screenagers Under the Influence. Students (4th grade and up) are encouraged to attend with their family. Each registered family will receive a gift!

About

Join Screenagers filmmaker Delaney Ruston as she picks up her camera once more to examine the impact of our digital age on teens' decision-making in relation to substances such as vaping, drugs, and alcohol. Exploring the latest research and learning more about the personal experiences of teens and families, the film highlights the changing landscape of the substances themselves, offering solutions for how we can best empower teens as they face decisions about what they will and will not be influenced by.

Health Office Update

The CDC has updated COVID-19 guidance to include the removal of the 5 day isolation period with a positive case of COVID-19. The Vermont Department of Health plans to follow the guidance as well.  COVID-19 is now being treated as other respiratory illnesses. As a result MMUUSD will no longer require COVID positive students or staff to isolate for 5 days. It is advised that COVID-19-positive people mask for 5 days.  District guidelines do remain in place - If you are sick, please stay home.  Please read this updated link District Illness Guidelines. The district has a supply of masks and antigen tests if requested.
